The law firm of Gilpin Givhan, a professional corporation, recently hired three associates.

John George Archer and Patrick Perry practice in the firm’s Tax and Corporate and Securities groups while Morgan Eason practices in the Business Litigation and Tax Controversy group. Archer focuses on tax and business planning; mergers and acquisitions; and securities and regulatory compliance. Perry’s main areas of focus are tax and business planning and estate planning. Both advise clients on transactional, regulatory and tax matters. Eason represents businesses involved in disputes and controversy.

“We are thrilled to add John George, Patrick and Morgan to our firm,” Gilpin Givhan Managing Partner Davis Smith said. “They will help us better serve our clients and are important for our firm’s future growth.”

Archer, who received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Auburn University, was a summer associate at Gilpin Givhan in 2016 and 2017. He received his juris doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law and obtained a master of laws degree in taxation from New York University School of Law, which consisted of an intensive one-year program.

He was hooked on Gilpin Givhan. “I knew immediately that the work they did and types of practice and the clients they had was what I wanted to do.” He said he has an affinity for business and taxation. “It’s a passion of mine. It’s exciting.”

Perry has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received a juris doctorate from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law and later obtained a master of laws degree in taxation from New York University School of Law. “You learn every nuance” of tax laws, said Perry, who was born in Birmingham and attended Arab High School. “I think I possess a certain skill of being able to interpret how not only the old tax laws apply, but how the new laws … can possibly benefit clients because they are very pro-business. The firm is in position to help clients navigate the new tax laws.”

He said that as a smaller firm, Gilpin Givhan attorneys “can develop a lot of personal relationships and in our line of work doing tax and business law – that’s important. You always want to be available to clients to help them in any way possible and I think clients of the firm appreciate that.”

Eason, who also has a juris doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law, said that a law school friend recommended that she apply at Gilpin Givhan. “Our litigation department does a great job of listening to the client and seeing what outcome they want and making a plan based on that,” Eason said. “We work toward a resolution with the client’s best interests.”

She received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Clemson University and later was a law clerk for South Carolina Circuit Court Judge Grace Gilchrist.
