Gilpin Givhan, PC is pleased to announce that Jacob “Alex” Oswalt has joined the firm as an associate attorney in the firm's Taxation, Business & Corporate, and Economic Development & Public Finance practice areas. Mr. Oswalt's practice focuses on federal, state and local tax matters, business transactions, and corporate planning.

Mr. Oswalt received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Richmond School of Law in May 2025 and his LL.M. in Taxation at the New York University School of Law, in May 2026. While at the University of Richmond, he co-founded and served as copresident of the Tax Law Society and received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Tax Law and the Faculty Award for Excellence in Commercial Law. He earned his B.S. in Accounting, magna cum laude, from Birmingham-Southern College in May 2022.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Oswalt gained extensive tax experience through positions with the Virginia Department of Taxation, the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, the Community Tax Law Project, and Forvis, LLP. His work included tax policy research, tax controversy matters, regulatory analysis, and the preparation of federal, state and local tax filings.
